Through our Outreach Committee, St. Luke’s has helped fund each year over a dozen not for profit organizations and outreach initiatives in Door County, including the Door County Housing Partnership, Door of Life Food Pantry, Door County Medical Center, Help of Door County, Door County Habitat for Humanity, Good Samaritan Society Scandia Village, Secret Santa program of northern Door County, United Way of Door County, and the YMCA summer lunch program. Outside of Door County, we have given to Episcopal Relief and Development, the College of Transfiguration in South Africa, and the Diocese of Masvingo, Zimbabwe.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Shawls have been made for centuries. They are universal and embracing; they comfort and enfold; wrap and warm; mother and hug. Knitters pray for the persons while they make the shawl. When the shawl is completed it is blessed. When a shawl is given, the recipient receives a card with prayers and a brief history of the prayer shawl ministry attached.
Shawls are given to those who are undergoing chemo, the bereaved, those who are going through a difficult time, someone moving away, a new mother, an ordination - - any occasion where someone could be touched by encouragement and prayer. Prayer shawls are made for those known and unknown. Making a prayer shawl helps and comforts not only the recipient, but the maker as well.
If you are interested in joining the group, know of someone who would benefit from receiving a shawl or would like to donate yarn or fleece fabric for making shawls, please contact Carol Ann Osinski at 920/746-9946 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Loaves & Fishes
Loaves and Fishes offers a free meal that is served every fourth Tuesday at Stella Maris, Sister Bay, by volunteers from the various faith communities of northern Door County. Whether the need is financial or social, all are invited.
Door of Life Food Pantry
At least once a year members bring in bags of food for delivery to the Door of Life Food Pantry which is open 24/7 to anyone in need. Members also replenish the pantry shelves regularly.
